SFs recover explosives, arms & ammos

Combined team of Assam Rifles and police recovered huge cache of explosives, arms and ammunition during search operations conducted on Saturday.
According to police reports, a Special Operation Group comprising Somrei-based 33 AR, Thoubal district commando, women personnel and Nongpok Sekmai police station conducted searches at Phainom village under Nongpok Sekmai police station from 6:30 am to 8:15 am on Saturday leading to recovery of one each .303 rifle, double barrel rifle, 55 mm illumination mortar shell, handheld Chinese walkie-talkie, tear smoke shell soft nose, 38 mm anti-riot cartridge, magazine of 5.56mm INSAS rifle magazine, and magazine of 5.56mm INSAS LMG; two each stun grenades, 36 HE hand-grenades and bulletproof jackets; five 7.62mm cartridges; and three 12 bore cartridges.
A combined team of Imphal East district police, 16 AR and 22 AR also carried out search operation at the upper reaches of Kongba Maru under Sagolmang police station from 9 am till 12 noon on Saturday and recovered a single barrel gun, two 2-inch mortar illumination bombs with cover, five 36 HE grenades without detonator and two mini-flare cartridges.
On the other hand, security forces recovered ammunition during two separate operations in Tengnoupal district on Friday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that an area domination patrol of the Indian Army found a suspicious object wrapped in a jute bag about 500 metres from P Laijang village in Moreh, Tengnoupal district.
A meticulous search of the area resulted in discovery of five handmade grenades and other war like stores, it added.
The release also conveyed that another area domination patrol of AR and Manipur Police in the general area of -Molnom village, Tengnoupal district found freshly dug earth near the village.
A diligent search of the site resulted in recovery of five grenades and ammunition of varied types.
All recovered items have been handed over to police, it added.
