Assam Rifles seizes betel nuts worth ₹11.5 crore

Assam Rifles foiled a cross border smuggling of betel nuts worth Rs 11.5992 crore in Kamjong district on Saturday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that a search operation was launched based on credible intelligence indicating unlawful transportation of betel nuts in general area of Shankalok and jungle track connecting Phaikoh and Grihang villages.
During the operation, the AR team intercepted nine trucks that were involved in the illegal transportation of betel nut, which were lacking necessary valid documentation.
Upon thorough inspection, the search operation resulted in a significant seizure, encompassing 1220 bags of betel nuts, weighing approximately 96.66 tonnes and valued at Rs 11.5992 crore, it added.
The release further mentioned that the confiscated goods have been handed over to the forest beat officer of Kamjong district.
