Bodies condemn abduction, torture

Apex Naga civil organisations of Chandel namely the Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) along with Naga Women's Union, Chandel (NWUC) and Naga Students' Union, Chandel (NSUC) have strongly condemned alleged detention, abduction and torture of Dk Korungthang Maring and Ds Moran by paramilitary personnel on January 30, 2024 .
According to a statement of CNPO, Dk Korungthang Maring, son of Dk Konai of Khukarthi village is undergoing treatment at JNIMS hospital in a serious condition after third degree torture by personnel of 3 Assam Rifles.
The unfortunate incident happened on January 30, 2024 at about 3pm when Dk Korungtharig and his associate Ds Moran of N Satang were travelling to Satang village via Machi.
At the junction of Sangsak road, some personnel of 3 AR intercepted the duo and abducted them to an unknown place.
On February 1, 2024, the two missing/abducted individuals were brought to Chandel police station in such a condition that Dk Korungthang had to be immediately referred to hospital in Imphal for medical attention, the CNPO said adding that the paramilitary personnel took away Rs 4 lakh cash for business purpose and Maruti Gypsy driven by Korungthang.
The CNPO statement issued by its information & publicity cell also said that family members searching for the duo and their whereabouts were denied exact location where they were and their conditions.
