Governor visits relief camps, hears grievances

Governor Anusuiya Uikey visited relief camp opened at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboi Khongnangkhong in Imphal West district on Friday and interacted with the displaced people taking shelter there.
A Governor's secretariat release in-formed that altogether 548 displaced people including 157 children from Kang-pokpi, Kakching and Churachandpur districts are taking shelter in the camp.
Governor heard grievances and hardships faced by the people and assured them to extend all possible help at the earliest, the release informed, adding that she also enquired about the facilities being provided to the people and directed the district administration to improve what-ever necessary.
She also asked the deputy commissioner to submit a detailed report of what facilities are being provided to the displaced people in the camp, the release added.
While interacting with the people in the camp, Governor said that the central and state governments are trying to settle the issue with all possible means, adding that as a temporary arrangement prefabricated houses are being built in different locations for settling the displaced people till return of normalcy.
Enquiring the facilities in the camp, Governor asked the district administration to provide television sets, clothes, baby food and consum-ables for women and children and also to start yoga sessions for the people.
She also directed the district administration for providing every single need of school going children in the camp.
Talking to media persons, the Governor informed that she has come to enquire about the conditions of displaced people taking shel-ter in the camp.
She said that some facilities which are being provided to the people are good while some other facilities like medi-cines, sanitation and cooling facilities needs to be augmented.
As an immediate relief to the people, a sum of Rs 1000 will be given to each member of families in the camp on Monday, she said, adding that, it will take time to settle the on-going issue and all out efforts are being made by the central and state governments.
The Governor then appealed all stakeholders to come forward for talks in bringing nor-malcy and peace in the state as usual through peaceful and amicable dialogue.
