Imphal, July 07 2023:
As Kuki militants and their supporters burnt down more Meitei houses and huts built at paddy fields at Chirik Leitong in Kangpokpi district, Nepali people of Chambirok village and surrounding areas have started fleeing to saferplaces.
Meitei houses and other properties were set on fire by Kuki militants at Chirik Leitong yesterday.
Some houses and huts which survived the arson because of rainfall were again set ablaze by Kuki militants and their supporters today.
Frightened by the Kuki militants' relentless aggression and violence, Nepali people settled in the surrounding area including Chambirok have started fleeing to safer places.
On the other hand, security forces and local volunteers have taken defensive positions as many Kuki militants were seen coming down from the nearby hill range known as Tombirok Shabi Phouintop.
There is a strong possibility of eruption of gun battle between the two sides any time, says a late report.
