JD (U) team consoles bereaved families of 4 victims
Convene all party meet call raised

Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal/Moirang, January 19 2024: A team of JD (U), State unit led by Dr Nimaichand Luwang went to Wangoo Sabal Akasoi today and met the family members of the four persons who were brutally killed by Kukis at Haotak Mapallok Chakpi Ching while collecting firewood on January 10 .

Speaking to the media by the sideline, National executive member of JD (U) Dr Nimaichand said that Chief Minister N Biren Singh is a ghost (bhoot) of BJP remotely controlled from the Centre by the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister.

Saying that the bloc of 10 Opposition parties have been urging the Centre and Manipur to end the conflict in Manipur but to no avail, he claimed that whatever the Centre and the State Government have been doing in Manipur amid the violence is highly questionable.

What has the Government done other than preaching peace lately, he asked.

Reiterating that the Chief Minister is only a stooge of the BJP, Dr Nimaichand said that another stooge being engaged in the violent conflict are Kuki militants under SoO pact.

Saying that people of Manipur are suffering because of the Chief Minister being used by the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister and SoO groups, he added that there will be peace in Manipur if these two ghosts (CM Biren and SoO groups) are driven out or exorcised.

Before heading to Kumbi, JD (U) held a press conference at Palace Compound during which Dr Nimaichand said that there would be no point in engaging in politics if Manipur breaks.

Expressing desire for the Chief Minister to call an all-party meeting and take a resolution to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he said that there may be some solution if all political parties in Manipur mount pressure on the Central leadership together to work out a solution to the protracted violence.

Saying that two commando personnel were killed at Moreh only recently using highly sophisticated weapons while simultaneous attacks were carried out against civilians at multiple places by Kuki militants, he continued that the situation in Manipur is still very tense and uncertain.

He also recalled how five civilians were murdered without showing any mercy by Kuki militants in broad daylight yesterday.

Maintaining that Kuki militants continue to attack Meiteis without any respite not sparing even the farmers, Dr Nimaichand said that JD (U) condemns the killing of Meitei civilians by the Kuki militants in the strongest terms and also the inability of the Government to protect lives.

Cries of separation and displacement have engulfed contemporary Manipur, he added.

The situation in Manipur has become so worrisome that literally no one can predict who will die next in the hands of Kuki militants, Dr Nimaichand cautioned and added that a gun culture has swept over Manipur.

He also said that law and order have completely collapsed in the State.

Reminding the statement of the Chief Minister wherein he stated that he may join the fight against Kuki militants if there is no respite in their onslaught, Dr Nimaichand added that what people of Manipur want is for the Chief Minister to join the movement to safeguard Manipur directly.

What is the point of having a Chief Minister if he cannot ensure the safety of the people, Dr Nimaichand said and asked the Chief Minister to resign.

Senior vice president of JD (U), Manipur and former Chief Secretary O Nabakishore said that the place where four civilians were killed by Kukis at Ningthoukhong lies in the valley and asked whether the Centre is waiting for more people to die.

Another senior vice president of the party Dr Khwairakpam Loken said that Manipur has indeed become a lawless State where people have been left to their fate.

Which agency is supervising the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact with the Kuki militants now, the former MLA asked.

He further asked from where the Kuki militants get their uninterrupted supply of arms and ammunition.

Is Manipur not a part of India and why is the Prime Minister not saying a single word about the killing of security personnel at Moreh, Dr Loken questioned.

Appealing to the Chief Minister to stop delivering only lip service and take up some action to restore normalcy in Manipur, he urged the Chief Minister to convene an all-party meeting as soon as possible.
