Imphal, January 19 2024:
Denouncing failure to contain the violence raging in the state since May 3 last year, Imphal East District United Clubs' Organisation and Imphal West District United Clubs' Organisation have demanded removal of security advisor Kuldiep Singh from the post of chairman of Unified Command (UC).
In separate releases, the two organisations strongly condemned continuous offensives by Kuki militants on unarmed civilians and held Kuldiep Singh accountable for casualties and injuries suffered by innocent citizens.
Contending that there is no purpose and use for keeping the central forces in the state as attacks are being carried out in the presence of central forces, the organisations insisted that central forces should be withdrawn from the state and Kuldiep Singh hand over the charge of chairman of Unified Command to another capable officer or individual.
While alleging that the central government is trying to suppress and divide the people of Manipur with the state government seemingly unconcerned, the Clubs regretted that there no governance in the state other than those helming the affairs only giving lip-service.
On the other-hand, Universal Mothers' Organisation (UMO), Thoubal secretary Okram Man-orama has advised chief minister N Biren to exercise his responsibility as chairman of Unified Command as security advisor Kuldiep Singh clarified that he is not the chairman of the Unified Command in a meeting with the mothers of Khwairamband Ima Keithel.
Speaking to media persons at Khunai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (KHUKAMPAL) office at Thoubal Wangmataba on Friday, Manorama recalled the statement of Kuldiep Singh wherein he explained about procedures for his replacement if ordered by the CM or the Governor and power bestowed on the CM.
As the CM has the power of the Unified Command, he should now oversee the task of restoring peace and normalcy in the state, she demanded.
Manorama was flanked by Thoubal District United Women Development Organisation secretary M Sanatombi, president S Bimola, Universal Mothers' Organisation (UMO) Thoubal president Ningombam Pishak and KHUKAMPAL Thoubal district president W Maipak Devi during the press conference.
