Imphal, January 19 2024:
The undergraduate and postgraduate students of Dhanamanjuri University shut down the varsity on Friday after the varsity authority failed to release the notification for conduct of the students' union election, despite multiple requests for the same.
On Friday, students of DM University locked the offices of the administrative block and of principals of the constituent colleges, namely DM College of Arts, DM College of Science, DM College of Commerce, GP Women's College and LMS Law College.
Speaking to newspersons in this regard, one of the protesting students informed that both undergraduate and postgraduate students had been facing problems in presenting the voices of the students following the end of term of the former students' union secretary.
As such, the relevant authorities were requested for conducting the union election.
However, no response was received for over two months.
The students then met the vice chancellor and the higher authority concerned and urged for releasing the notification within three days.
Unfortunately, the authorities turned a deaf ear to the demands of the students, thus compelling them to shut down the university until an agreement is reached, the Student conveyed.
