Imphal, January 19 2024:
Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) took out a rally in and around the capital city on Friday to demand resignation of the chief minister on moral ground of failing to contain violence raging in the state.
Members and volunteers of CPI-MSC took out the rally from Irabot Bhawan, with the intention to proceed till the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
However, they were intercepted by police along the Kanglapat road in front of IMC.
Speaking on the sidelines, CPI-MSC state secretary L Thoiren questioned why no peaceful solution could be brought about to put an end to the on-going conflict even after over eight months.
As such CM Biren must take responsibility for the same and resign from his post, he insisted while stating that Union home minister Amit Shah should also resign for failing to live up to his promise to restore peace in the state.
He continued that the CM is to be blamed for the killings of security forces in Moreh.
There are reports of attacks in the periphery areas every now and then.
Farmers and innocent civilians have been killed, thousands of families displaced and hundreds of homes razed to the ground.
None of these could be compensated by giving some amount of money, he remarked.
The rally was also participated by party leaders like M Joykumar, L Sumatibala, RK Amusana, H Sorojini and H Bimol.
On the other hand, CPI Central general secretary D Raja issued a press release, stating that the prolonged violence in Manipur has destabilised the lives of the people.
This shows that the state government has completely failed and as such, he demanded the resignation of CM N Biren Singh, while further demanding the Prime Minister and the union home minister to take up concrete steps for bringing a solution to the prevailing crisis in Manipur.
