The last rites of CDO Havildar Takhellambam Saileshwar, who fell victim to the bullet of Kuki militants in Moreh, were conducted with full state honours on Friday.
Family members and locals of Lamsang Akham and surrounding areas claimed the body of Saileshwar, who attained martyrdom in a sniper attack by Kuki militants in Moreh, from RIMS mortuary on Friday.
The body was first taken to 1st Manipur Rifles ground where a memorial service was held at the Manipur Police Memorial Complex.
From there, the body, draped in the seven-colour Salai flag, was taken to his native village and funeral was conducted.
Paying tribute to the slain jawan, education minister Th Basanta Kumar said that the state government is ready to face the threat posed by Kuki militants.
State and Central forces have joined hands to thwart any aggression, he said, adding that the government will convene a meeting and adopt a firm resolution to neutralise the aggression.
Social welfare minister H Dingo, Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha, state security advisor Kuldiep Singh, and senior officers of Manipur police also attended the memorial service and paid tributes to the slain havildar.
Mention may be made here that Havildar Saileshwar was hit by a sniper bullet during a fierce attack by Kuki militants, which allegedly included armed militants from Myanmar side, on January 17.Two CDO personnel were killed and seven injured in the attack carried out by the militants using RPG, incendiary munitions, sniper rifles and other high calibre firearms.
