Imphal, July 02 2023: Taking a swipe at BJP for belittling the visit of Rahul Gandhi to Manipur, the Congress party has asked the saffron party to seek the answer of Gandhi's visit from Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead who so far hasn't given a single comment about the situation let alone visit the State.

Addressing the media at Congress Bhavan here today, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Hareshwar Goswami said that the people of Manipur wouldn't want to hear political comments now as the State is facing a much bigger problem.

Saying that the Congress won't try to take political mileage from the situation, he added that AICC leader Rahul Gandhi also didn't give any political comment when he was in Manipur for two days other than sharing the pain and grief of displaced folks at relief camps.

Further stating that Rahul Gandhi was accorded a warm welcome by many people in Manipur, Hareshwar Goswami claimed that some people however criticised the former president of AICC for visiting the State even though they know the gravity of the situation in the State.

On Rahul Gandhi taking the land route while heading to Moirang and Churachandpur, Hareshwar Goswami claimed that the AICC leader took out the journey after taking due approval from the Government and the authorities concerned.

He further said that it was the Government which provided a bulletproof vehicle and escort to the AICC leader.

The BJP Government at both the Centre and State are adept in writing drama scripts as they tried to take political mileage from Rahul's visit by letting some hired people block the convoy of the AICC leader in Bishnupur, the MPCC leader claimed.

Asking why the Manipur Government allowed Rahul Gandhi to take the land route initially if there is security reason, the senior spokesperson of Congress claimed that even police informed them about the security measure taken along the route which was to be taken by the convoy before the Congress team hit the road.

He further said that the Congress party takes some important organisations and individuals who have questioned the outcome of Gandhi's visit to Manipur as arising out of sheer ignorance.

Saying that the resignation drama staged by the Chief Minister was ridiculous, he said that N Biren Singh is the first person who read out his resignation paper in front of people in the history of Manipur.

If he indeed wanted to resign then the Chief Minister could have sent his resignation paper to Raj Bhavan virtually, the Congress leader said.

What is the point of Union Home Minister Amit Shah monitoring the law and order situation in hill districts of Manipur as there is no let up in aggression of Kuki militants till today, he said and added that the BJP seems to have a hidden agenda about the violence in Manipur.

Is the Centre so weak that they can't even control the Kuki militants, Hareshwar Goswami asked and maintained that making the signatories of SoO pact follow the ground rules of the agreement wouldn't be so difficult if there is explicit order from the Government of India.

Violence continues to take place in Manipur because the Centre is giving a free hand to the Kuki militants, he claimed.

The Congress leader went on to ask why the BJP Government didn't review the SoO agreement despite being in power for eight years at the Centre if the problem lies in the agreement.

Hareshwar Goswami also said that the Congress party will oppose any provision to establish separate administration in Manipur as demanded by the 10 Chin-Kuki at both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
