Imphal, July 02 2023:
The Citizens for Justice, Manipur (CFJM) has voiced concerns over the alleged smuggling of three truckload of arms and ammunition from China-Myanmar border to Manipur recently.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, CFJM chairperson Khaidem Mani asked the Central leaders how the arms and ammunition managed to cross the border unnoticed.
Who received the truckloads of arms and ammunition and what measures have been taken up to seize the illegal weapons, he further asked.
Kh Mani also sought an explanation from the Manipur Government on the initiatives taken up to combat narco-terrorism in the State and progress made in controlling the Chin-Kuki militants.
Saying that the violence in Manipur has claimed over 130 lives and displaced thousands of people, the CFJM chairperson continued that blockade on National Highway 2, suspension of internet and closure of schools and other establishments have compounded the suffering of the people.
The safety and security measures taken up by the elected Government at the Centre and the State also remain unclear, he said and appealed to the Government to take up prompt actions to protect the lives and properties of the people.
CFJM vice-chairperson A Noutuneshwari, on the other hand, urged President Droupadi Murmu to take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of all citizens in Manipur.
