Imphal, July 02 2023:
Locals of Sekmai and Lamshang Constituencies staged a sit-in at different areas of the Constituencies today demanding deployment of either IRB or Manipur Rifles in their areas.
The protesters also demanded the establishment of permanent posts of the State security forces at the Meetei villages located near the foothills of Sekmai and Lamshang.
Placards which read "No separate administration in Manipur", "Implement NRC" and "Abrogate SoO pact" were held among others during the sit-ins organised by Awang Sekmai Kanba Nupi Lup, Singda Naharol Yaipha Thouni Kanglup and Kadangband Apunba Naharol at their respective areas.
Speaking to the media, a spokesperson of Awang Sekmai Kanba Nupi Lup urged the Government to set up permanent posts of State forces in the villages at peripheral areas.
She also urged the State Government to provide adequate State police to resume agricultural activities.
Reacting to the claim that law and order is improving in Manipur gradually, she said that the Government should not make any conclusion by looking into the situation in Imphal alone.
Kuki militants continue to attack Meetei villages in the periphery of the valley districts and foothill areas, she said and urged the Government to make a sincere effort to end the crisis in Manipur.
