Imphal, July 02 2023:
The Lukmai Sellup has emphasised the importance of adopting a collective plan to effectively tackle the ongoing crisis in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the State capital and extend support to peripheral areas.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club today, Asem Nirmala secretary of Lukmai Sellup, highlighted the lack of unity in the current action plan, which is primarily driven by emotions.
She stressed that such an approach may not yield long-term success and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the attacks by Kuki militants.
Nirmala also stressed on the need for the capital and market to operate smoothly to provide assistance to people in peripheral areas and underlined that sustaining the economy is crucial for effectively addressing the ongoing issues in the long run.
Referring to Lukmai Sellup's recent meeting with AICC leader Rahul Gandhi, Nirmala conveyed their concerns about the perceived bias of central forces.
"The Sellup urged for close monitoring by security advisors and emphasized that true peace cannot be achieved until the Government takes control of weapons held by the SoO groups", said Nirmala while adding that they also highlighted the plight of indigenous people living as refugees in relief camps and called for swift implementation of resettlement programs.
The secretary further drew attention to the fact that the historic Nupi Lal movement was not initiated by any specific organisation or group, but rather through the collective unity of Manipur's women.
She called for a unified approach and collective decision-making to overcome the unrest prevalent in Manipur.
"As the situation unfolds, it becomes increasingly important for all stakeholders to come together, set aside differences and work towards a comprehensive and well-planned strategy to bring about lasting peace and stability in Manipur", she added.
