Imphal, July 02 2023:
Days after setting up fresh bunkers within the village boundary of Terakhongsangbi under Phougak-chao PS in Bishnupur district, well-armed Kuki militants have started occupying the bunkers as well as manning the abandoned building of a water supply office in the same area.
Terakhongsangbi village has been the target for Kuki militants due to its close proximity to the nearby hill.
Following an attack on the village in mid-May, many of the residents have fled their homes except for few village volunteers.
Recently, Kuki militants set up new bunkers inside the boundary of the village despite presence of BSF on the Meetei side and CRPF on the Kuki side.
Additional well-armed Kuki militants have arrived and occupied the bunkers and the building from Saturday night onward.
Consequently, the residents brought up the matter to the authority concerned but no steps have been taken up to flush out the militants and destroy the bunkers.
CRPF personnel deployed to protect Kuki villages in the hill are also turning a blind eye to the provocative activities of the Kuki militants thereby creating a tense Situa tion and a sense of uncertainty among the villagers.
Local sources said that Kuki militants launched attacks from the said bunkers in the past.
They even used land mines, explosion of killed or injured several cattle.
With heavy presence of Kuki militants in these bunkers, local residents fear launch fresh offence anytime soon.
