Imphal, July 02 2023:
Lukmai Sellup, Ima Keithel No 1 has called for keeping the market open in order to ensure continuation of economic activities keeping in view of the hardships the state would be facing due to the ongoing conflict.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, Lukmai Sellup secretary Asem Nirmala appealed to all the women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel to take a decision in this regard while keeping in view of the current situation in the state.
The Ima Keithel is the backbone of the state's economy and disrupting the trading activities frequently will hinder the general population from extending help to the crisis-affected people.
As such, it is time to take a united stand to continue the trade and also participate in the issue as well, she stressed.
The secretary further said that the organisation presented a real picture of the current crisis to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi telling him how the central security forces are having a biased attitude between the two communities, Central government's lukewarm response and involvement of Kuki militants since the beginning of the violence.
They also highlighted the plight of the farmers with the arrival of monsoon, which will have direct impact to socio-economy of the state and survival of its people.
They also urged him about the stand to protect Manipur's territory at all cost, she informed.
Nirmala further appealed to all concerned to refrain from forming different organisations in connection with the crisis but to fight under a common umbrella.
Forming different organisations and taking different decisions will only confuse the public.
Lukmai Sellup will not be part of any new body formed in connection with the issue, she declared.
