Two Meeteis abducted in Moreh: SFs rescue five

Suspected Kuki militants abducted two Meetei youths from near Moreh Ward No 2 Super Market on Saturday.
One the kidnapped youths has been identified as Thokchom Ningthourem-ba Meitei (29), son of late Th Ihoiba Meitei of Moreh Ward No 7 Heinou Makhong but identity of the other could not be established as of now.
According to sources, whereabouts of the two youths, who were whisked away in an auto-rickshaw, remain unknown till late Sunday evening.
Ningthouremba's family is staying in a relief camp in Imphal after their house was burned down by Kuki rioters.
His father Thoiba Meitei died at an Imphal hospital due to ill-health after staying in relief camp for some days.
Meanwhile, a combined team of 4 Assam Rifles and 20 JAT Regiment rescued five Meetei civilians, who were abducted by Kuki miscreants, on Saturday evening.
They were abducted from Gwaltabi area, under Yaigangpokpi Police Station in Imphal East district, while travelling in an auto-rickshaw.
The rescued civilians are Oinam Naoba (27) son of O Megha of Nongpok Ingkhok, Laikhuram Kalachand (37) son of L Chandan of Poura-bi, Arambam Champion (38) son of Ingocha of Naharup, Thanjam Ranjit (39) son of Th Rajen of Yumnam Leikai, and RK Joysana (32) son of RK Sanayaima of Nongpok Lourembam, Thoubal.
Sources said that upon receiving information about the abduction, the security team swiftly launched a rescue operation in the area.
They faced a tense situation as locals reported hearing some gunshots around 8:30 pm, heightening the tension and panic in Gwaltabi and Yaingangpokpi area.
The team continued their efforts to locate and rescue the abducted individuals.
Later, the combined team sue cessfully rescued all the five Meetei civilians, along with -the auto-rickshaw, from the Kuki miscreants.
The rescued individuals were handed over to Yaingangpokpi police station around 12.30 am.
Police then dropped them to their respective homes on Sunday morning.
