Imphal, July 02 2023:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) senior spokesperson Hareshwar Goswami has said that the resignation bid by chief minister N Biren was a 'drama' .
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan on Sunday, Hareshwar said the resignation letter had been torn but legal experts will have to ascertain if the resignation was valid as the resignation letter was already in public domain.
Reading out of resignation letter in front of public was never heard of before and the chief minister could have sent the resignation letter via mail if he had the real intention to resign, he reasoned adding that reading out of resignation letter in front of public will ever remain as first in the history.
Questioning as to how a huge gathering of people was possible despite promulgation of CrPC 144 in Imphal West district prohibiting assembly of four or more people, Hareshwar pointed out Sanjen-thong to CM's bungalow area too is high security silent zone.
Hareshwar, who is also the MPCC vice president, raised concerns about the inactivity of security personnel when thousands of people gathered in a tight security zone, located between the Chief Minister Secretariat and Raj Bha van, preventing the Chief Minister from going to Raj Bhavan to submit the resignation letter to Governor Anusuiya Uikey.
Reacting to remarks that Sus pension of Operation (SoO) was signed during the tenure of Con gress government, he explained that SoO agreement was a step towards bringing peace.
However, it is questionable how the ongoing violence is related to SoO.
During the Congress government, it was not known where the SoO militants were but SoO militants are everywhere under the BJP regime, he added.
According to Hareshwar, the ongoing violence could end within 48 hours if Union home minister Amit Shah gives directive to SoO militants to remain in their designated camps and issue shoot at sight order if SoO militants fail to abide by agreed SoO ground rules.
Referring to the statement of CM Biren who mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would oversee and control the hill areas, particularly concerning the Kuki militants, Hareshwar Goswami said that Kuki militants have not stopped firing upon Meitei villagers and it has resulted in the scores of deaths.
"Why is the Union Home Minister unable to curb the Kuki militants horrifying acts of firing upon innocent Meitei villagers? What is the hidden agenda," the Congress leader asked.
Hareshwar pointed out that Rahul Gandhi's visit was not for political reason but a humanitarian one.
He came to share the hardships and pains of the displaced people.
It is unfortunate for BJP to question the visit of Rahul Gandhi while keeping aside the silence of Prime Minister for two months.
Such attitude from the BJP points to the,BJP government ignoring hard ships of the people.
Regarding the road visit of Rahul Gandhi, Hareshwar said that the government allowed him to visit Churachandpur by road which is why he went up to Bishnupur.
However, the government tried to script a drama by managing some resistance from its supporters when they first entered Bishnupur district.
Within minutes, the"stage managed resistance was shared by BJP leader Sambit Patra along with photos.
However, the actual scene in Bishnupur was different as large number of public came out to welcome him.
On seeing the public support, the government used its security to stop him.
De spite seeing such rousing and emotionally charged welcome from the public, BJP is asking the results of the visit, he said He further said that the Separate Administration de mand raised by the 10 Kuki MLAs could involve Article 244, 339, 355, 356 or 371(A) and amendment to this article would require resolution in the parliament.
In case the matter comes up in the parliament, Congress will take major role in ensuring the state's territorial integrity, he said and added that such stand would require proper knowledge of the state.
