Imphal, July 02 2023: NCC Alumni Imphal Group, Manipur, today staged a sit-in protest demanding immediate restoration of peace in Manipur at Thangmeiband near THAU Ground.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Naorem Kanakumar Singh, ex-cadet of NCC, asserted that the NCC Alumni Imphal Group condemns the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the prevailing situation of Manipur even after almost two months since the conflict broke out on May 3 last.

He shared that if the PM does not make a statement on the present conflict within five days, all the ex-cadets of NCC will make a nominal list and hand over their certificates to DG, NCC through Group Commanders and ADG.

At the sit-in, placards with writings such as, "Why Modi silent", "Withdraw SoO agreement between Government of India and Kuki militants", "Go back Myanmar foreigners", "Implement NRC in Manipur", "We want peace", etc were displaced.

Widespread sit-in protests were also staged in different places of Imphal East district today by Manipur Awang Chingkhei Kanba Club Meira Paibi Apunba Lup demanding withdrawal of the SoO pact.

The demonstration at Yaingangpokpi Bazar was jointly staged by women folk of Thamnapokpi, Sanasabi and Gwaltabi while the sit-in at Seijang Playground was carried out by Seijang APUNBA Meira Paibi.

Another sit-in was staged at Leimakhong Mapal Community Hall by Leimakhong Mapal Apunba Meira Paibi.

Placards with the slogans such as, "Implement NRC in Manipur", "Withdraw SoO with Kuki militants", "Remove Assam Rifles from Manipur", "No Separate Administration in Manipur", "Hand over administration of Manipur to CM", etc were displaced extensively at the protests.

Meanwhile, Kakwa Asem Leikai Meira Paibi Lup today organised a meeting for all the Meira Paibis from Singjamei to Lilong area at Kakwa Community Hall, Singjamei.

Addressing the gathering, Laishram Ongbi Memcha general secretary Kakwa Asem Leikai Meira Paibi Lup, expressed concern over the disunity among the Meitei community and urged all to set aside their differences during this crucial juncture.

She appealed to the public to seek the truth about any matter before spreading rumors/ fake news and stand together for the common goal.

She also urged the Government to initiate measures to rehabilitate/ resettle the displaced people who are taking shelter at relief camps.

Memcha further urged all the CSOs and organisations to work together towards the common goal of restoring peace & normalcy in Manipur.

Besides, Committee of Forward Clubs (CFC), Thongju and Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Thongju also jointly organised a public meeting yesterday on the theme, "Role of MLAs in bringing an end to the violence in Manipur" .

In a release, CFC informed that the meeting participated by representatives of Meira Paibis and Clubs observed that the public is disappointment over the lack of efforts by the MLAs both from the ruling & opposition parties to bring an end to the violence in Manipur even after 57 days since the conflict broke out on May 3 last.

It was observed that the people are dissatisfied with the attitude of the MLAs who are unable to take a clear stand on the present issue and keep bending to every whims of the Government of India.

In the meeting, it was decided that all the 50 MLAs should stop being a mute spectator and clarify their stand on the present issue or resign from their post.

The meeting also decided to launch democratic agitation if the 50 MLAs fail to comply and clarify their stand before July 7, 2023 .

The meeting also resolved to carry out a cease work in areas under the jurisdiction of CFC Thongju on July 3 and light candles in the evening to pay tribute to those who had lost their lives during the ongoing conflict.
