Col CK Nayudu Trophy 2021-22 : Manipur suffer loss to Mumbai in tourney opener

Manipur lost by an innings and 253 runs to Mumbai in their first tie (Elite Group A) of the U-25 Men's Col CK Nayudu Trophy 2021 at CAP Ground 3, Puducherry.
Electing to bat first Mumbai had posted a record total of 605 runs for 6 in 150.2 overs in the first innings and restricted Manipur to 145 in first innings and 206 in the second innings for the huge win.
Musheer Khan blazed off 267 runs off 408 balls for Mumbai and Subed Parker was unbeaten on 162 .
Armaan Jaffer had also added 88 to Mumbai's tally.
Alfred Hmar clinched two wickets for 85 runs in 14.2 overs in the Mumbai innings which also saw Jotin Pheiroijam (1/86), Denin (1/ 84), Nitesh (1/79) and Bikash (1/77) fetching a wicket each.
Manipur just lasted 57.5 overs in the first innings as they bundled out for 145 runs.
Bikash, with an unbeaten 44 off 47 balls, was the highest run getter in this innings which witnessed Khizar Dafedar ripping through Manipur's line up to finish with best bowling figures of 3/42 in 19 overs.
Mumbai bowlers, Atharva Vinod (2/10 in 4.5 overs) and Himanshu (2/21 in 12 overs) also caused much damage while Saksham and Sylvester Dsouza contributed by claiming a wicket each.
Still trailing behind by 459 runs, Manipur were let to follow on but ended up scoring 206 runs in 73.1 overs of the second innings as Khizar Dafedar shone yet again, this time by fetching 6 wickets for 61 runs in 25 overs.
Skipper Kishan added a fighting 48 off 82 balls in Manipur's tally while Jotin managed 47 off 135 balls.
Nitesh (23) and Nawaz (21) too gave their best but succumbed cheaply to rampant Mumbai bowlers.
Mumbai's Minad Manjrekar too gave in a remarkable performance by snatching two wickets for 10 runs in 5.1 overs as his compatriots, Saksham (1/9 in 4 overs) and Sylvester Dsouza (1/43 in 10 overs) chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Manipur will play Tamil Nadu in the next match of the multi-day tournament from March 29 at the same venue.
