Imphal, March 25 2022:
A three day capacity building training programme on 'Protected cultivation of high value vegetable crops for nutritional security and generating higher income' concluded today at the College of Agriculture (COA), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
The programme was sponsored by ICAR-ATARI, Umiam, Meghalaya through the Directorate of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal, said a statement by the university.
Speaking as the chief guest of the valedictory programme, Professor Indira Sarangthem, Dean, COA expressed belief that the protected cultivation of high value vegetable crops in the State will be enhanced through the programme and stressed on the need to work hand in hand with the State Agriculture/Horticulture departments and agri-entrepreneurs.
Professor L Nabachandra and Professor Dilip Singh, COA Imphal expressed that the programme is relevant to the farmers of the State as they are marginal land holders.
They further emphasized that protected cultivation is the answer to higher production and gaining higher income than other crops since cultivable land is shrinking day by day.
Such a step is possible only through awareness and capacity building programmes for State agriculture, horticulture and extension functionaries, they added.
