TNWL couples retreat begins at Hongmahn village

The 4th Edition of Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL) Couples Retreat got off to a graceful start here at Hongmahn village under Saikul block on Friday.
TNWL president SA Ramnganing hoisted the ceremonial flag of the couples retreat in the presence of Hongmahn headman Mathankhui Zimik, Tangkhul Awungva Saklong (TAS) chairperson CH Ngasailei, TNWL general secretary Kaphaoleng Angkang, Hongmahn Baptist Church pastor MK Standhope, UBC pastor Rev Remember Rimai and congregation of village chiefs and their better halves from across Tangkhul community.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramnganing highlighted the purpose of the retreat.
Stating that the age-old Tangkhul tradition has reposed immense social and customary responsibilities upon all village headmen and their better halves, he added: "Today, we are here to reason together".
"It's to introspect and retrospect the fast changing pace of our society that we are organising this re-treat for the couples," he reminded the gathering of hereditary chiefs and their spouses.
He observed that the society is witnessing rapid changes in all spheres.
In such time, our customary practices could become a casualty, he continued, adding that the society needs to adjust the age-old customs with all changes around us.
He also said that responsibility of motherhood is immense, and urged Awungva (wives of headmen) to live up to the customary standard.
Held under the theme Inclusive Social Change vis-a-vis Customary Practices', the couples retreat will continue till March 28.Rev Remember Rimai was the main speaker of the inaugural session.
He underscored the need to strike a balance between social changes and custom.
