International webinar on bamboo standard held

An international webinar on "2022 Taiwan-India/Global Bamboo Tech Forum - Series 1 - International Standards of Bamboo in Construction" was held on March 22.The webinar was organised as a part of collaborative effort of Manipur Technical University (MTU), South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF) and National Cheung Cheng University (NCCU), Taiwan, said a press release by Jimmy Laishram, president of Institution's Innovation Council, MTU.
Dr Shi-Ming Huang, Chairman and Director from Taiwan National Chung Cheng University of E-Manufacturing and E-Commerce Centre and the founder of SABF, Kamesh Salam deliberated on various standard issues.
Eminent bamboo industry workers, scholars and experts were invited from all over the world to discuss how bamboo as a building material can be utilized by recognising its strategic value.
The Vice-Chancellor of MTU, Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram also highlighted various bamboo standards in the Indian context.
He also raised the unavailable standards on bamboo fastening designs and joints as well as structural performance standards.
This forum focused on the new international standard of ISO 22156 circular bamboo structure design, added the release.
It is worth mentioning that MTU had earlier signed an MoU with SABF as technical partner and National Cheung Cheng University, Taiwan as knowledge partner, to establish a Bamboo Innovation and Incubation Centre with SABF.
The incubation centre aims to provide support to the entrepreneurs in the Northeastern States of India in terms of innovation and technology support in the areas of bamboo charcoal and bamboo based engineering applications.
Besides incubation activities, the centre also aims to provide various on-line and off-line courses in bamboo applications.
