International webinar on bamboo organised

Manipur Technical University (MTU), South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF) and National Cheung Cheng University (NCCU), Taiwan jointly conducted an international webinar '2022 Tai-wan-India/Global Bamboo Tech Forum - Series 1 - Inter national Standards of Bamboo in Construction' on March 22.In a release, MTU Institution's Innovation Council president Jimmy Laishram informed that during the webinar NCCU Taiwan E-Manufacturing and E-Commerce Centre chairman and director Dr Shi-Ming Huang along with SABF founder Kamesh Salam deliberated on various standard issues related to bamboo as construction material.
MTU vice chancellor Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram also spoke on various bamboo standards in the Indian context and raised the issue of standards on bamboo fastening designs and joints as well as structural performance.
The release further conveyed that eminent bamboo industry workers, scholars and experts from different countries participated in the webinar to discuss how bamboo can be utilised as a building material and its strategic value.
The forum also focused on the new international standard of ISO 22156 circular bamboo structure design.
MTU further mentioned that the webinar was held as part of an MoU signed between the varsity and SABF to establish a Bamboo Innovation and Incubation Cen tre with SABF as technical partner and NCCU, Taiwan as knowledge partner during a seminar organised by MTU in collaboration with SABF on December 10, 2021.The incubation centre aims to provide support to the entrepreneurs in the North Eastern states of India in terms of innovation and technology support in the areas of bamboo charcoal and bamboo based engineering applications.
Besides incubation activities, the centre aims to provide various online and offline courses in bamboo applications, it informed.
