Imphal, March 25 2022:
During the last two days, forest fire occurred at Sangai Nanthabi, Lamdeng often referred to as the second home of Sangai and has spread till the Langol hill range.
Despite the collective efforts of the Forest Department officials and volunteers of the Wildlife and Habitat Protection Society (WAHPS), the wildfire continues to spread at an alarming rate, said a press release by WAHPS.
In view of such a scenario, WAHPS has appealed to all concerned to be extra precautious and to stay alert especially during the dry season as uncontrolled fire can cause irreparable damage.
The society further appealed to remain calm and alert the nearest Forest Department and local authorities or youth clubs in case of forest fire.
Stressing on the measures to prevent forest fire, the society maintained that the locals, campers, hikers and picnickers need to be sensitized about forest fire.
The campers or hikers should ensure to put out any form of camp fire before leaving the camp sites and should avoid burning any waste near foothills or leaving the fire attended, added the release.
