Imphal, March 25 2022:
Anal Lenruawl Tangpi/Anal Naga Students' Union (ALT) has condemned the manner of functioning of District Fishery Office (DFO) Chandel and demanded necessary action by the authorities concerned against officers and staff of the office.
In a release, ALT Chandel president Pashel Kingson claimed that they have observed that the district fishery officer and other staff are only attending their office once in a month or once im two months which is akin to dereliction of duty.
DFO Chandel headed by district fishery officer K Jenishing is totally incompetent in executing their work to the satisfaction of the people.
They have failed to attend office or pay field visits, interact with fish farmers, organise training to increase fish production under any scheme, etc.
The district fishery officer and fishery inspector in-charge are ageing and idealess and as such should take voluntary retirement, it asserted.
ALT Chandel also alleged that recently Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) scheme was launched in the district but from the initial stage to final stage it was embroiled in corruption with forms being sold at Rs 100 per form, no screening/interview was conducted for selecting genuine applicants, no field visits were made in the whole process and construction of ponds mandatory for the scheme was also not done.
Strangest of all was that the officers in-charge shortlisted all the beneficiaries without coming to office and interacting with the applicants.
This is not fair as equal opportunity was not given to all the applicants, it continued.
ALT Chandel further demanded that the higher authorities action against these officers and staff before things get out of hand.
