Minister distributes pension

Imphal, August 21 2013:
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai today distributed pensions to selected old-aged persons in a function held at the community hall of Takyel Kolom Leikai today.
United Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Vijaya Bank offered the facilities of opening bank accounts to newly added old-age pensioners of Patsoi Assembly Constituency during the function.
Speaking at the programme, AK Mirabai said that the State Government has implemented a scheme to provide pensions to widows who are at the age group of 18 to 50 years.
Fifty five widows were given Rs 2000 each as one-time assistance in today's function.
The Minister also informed the gathering that the amount for the Family Benefit Scheme which was introduced on October 1, last year, has been increased to Rs 20000 .
She also promised to distribute pensions in other districts as well.
The Minister urged the pensioners to open bank accounts in order to receive the benefit.
