Kanggui, August 21 2013:
Taking into account hardships faced by the college/school-going students along National Highway 2 and noting complaints lodged by the parents/guardians of the students in the transport system, the Kuki Students' Organization, Sadar Hills today convened a meeting with the Union of Northern Transport Society (UNTS) at Apex Christian English High School, Motbung.
The meeting was attended by 10 members of the Union and three KSO-SH representatives.
As per resolutions adopted at the meeting, KSO-SH informed all students and parents/guardians that there will be 50 per cent fare concession for the student community in all the vehicles plying along National Highway 2 .
Asking students to wear their respective college/school uniforms and possess identity card to avail the facility, the students' body said concessions will not be applicable to those students without uniform or identity card.
KSO-SH also prohibited students from riding on bus tops while urging vehicle operators, parents/guardians as well as the college/school authorities to direct students that they strictly comply with the instructions.
Further the students have been advised to wait for the bus latest by 8 am at designated bus stand.
The UNTS consists of Motbung to Sapormeina Transport Society, Kangpokpi Transport Society and Senapati Transport Society.
Owing to certain disagreements, mostly relating to cramming of passenger carriers by the students who pass less fare that the common travellers, public transporters often avoid carrying student passengers thus causing inconveniences and prompting KSO-SH to take the initiative in resolving the dispute.
The KSO-SH also asked the students maintain decorum while travelling in passenger carriers.
