Imphal, August 21 2013:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has sought clarification from different armed organisations on whether they demand their share in the distribution of rice meant for midday meal scheme.
Speaking to reporters, DESAM General Secretary Arambam Thoithoi said that there are doubts among the people on whether armed outfits are taking their 'share' or levying 'taxes' at the time of lifting rice meant for midday meal scheme from godowns.
He added that there is also unconfirmed information that some organisations which are currently on Suspension of Operation (SoO) with State and Central Governments are also deducting their shares from the scheme.
Urging the armed organisations to clarify on the matter at the earliest Thoithoi demanded the Government that necessary action be taken up if such things are in practice in the State in the interest of young children.
The General Secretary also urged Headmasters and school authorities not to provide more number of students to the Government with an idea to get more rice.
He also said that those school authorities, which take more rice from the Government by providing false record, must be responsible for any eventuality.
The State Government forwarded records of 2,33,997 students, Thoithoi added, however Central Government approved only 2,20,000 students.
