Jiri girl begins her 'crimes against women' mission on bicycle

Sougaijam Bidyalaxmi, an 18-year-old girl from Jiribam today started a peace cycle rally under the banner 'NE Cycle Rally' that will take about four months to cover the region.
Social Welfare minister AK Mirabai flagged off the rally from the Manipur Royal Palace complex in the morning.
Bidyalaxmi is on a mission to spread the message of 'no crime against women and children' throughout her long journey.
Minister Mirabai hailed Bidyalaxmi as a brave girl and appealed to the people of the region to extend support to the lone cyclist during her tour.
Wishing a successful trip, the Minister also donated Rs 20, 000 to Bidyalaxmi.

Before starting her journey, Bidyalaxmi said that she will spread the message that committing crimes against women and children seriously affect the country's economy and hindered development.
She said that she will also urge every state Governments of NE to take steps for sensitization on gender violence and make legislation to counter it.
Around Rs 3 lakh will be spent in the trip and it will take about four months, she said.
Bidyalaxmi will first cover the nine districts of Manipur.
Kh Tonaojit Singh, a member of Manipur Cycle Club will accompany her during the first leg of the journey.
Bidyalaxmi, daughter of S Iboton, is a native of Lakhipur Ward No 9, Jiribam.
She is currently doing BA First Semester at Jiribam Government College.
