Imphal, August 21 2013:
Even though the Indian National Congress (INC) bagged two legislative seats from Ukhrul district in the last general election, the MLAs could not be inducted into the Council of Ministers due to limitation in the number of Ministerial posts and there was no question of neglecting the district, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has said today.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest of the reception function hosted in honour of Deputy Speaker Preshaw Shimray jointly by Autonomous District Council (ADC), Ukhrul and Chingai Block Congress Committee at the auditorium of Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Chingmeirong here.
Ibobi further said that former Chief Minister Rishang Keishang had often advised the politicians to have patience and perseverance, and so the young legislators must wait for their turn to come.
He recalled former Chief Minister Yangmaiso Shaiza from Ukhrul district as an able statesman who had worked for the development of the State without any disparity between hills and plains.
His demise was indeed a great loss for the State, the Chief Minister added.
Ibobi further appealed to all to shun violence and adopt democratic means while making any demand or protest to the Government.
A democratic Government would always work for the welfare of its citizens, he asserted.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the Congress Party stands for unity and development in the State.
The party has come to the power for the third consecutive terms with full support of the people amidst threats and bloodshed.
The two Congress legislators from Ukhrul have been appointed the Deputy Speaker and Parliamentary Secretary in acknowledgement of the support rendered by the people of Ukhrul to the Congress Party, he noted.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Speaker Preshaw Shimray appealed to all to strive for a peaceful, progressive and unified Manipur.
Parliamentary Secretary Victor Keishing said that the two Congress MLAs have been given the key posts of the Government as a result of Congress Party's love and consideration for the people of Ukhrul.
