Imphal, August 21 2013:
Expressing that slackness in development activities in Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency is due to prolonged absence of a Congress representative from the assembly segment, Sadar Hills Autonomous District council Chairman Haokholal Hangsing said Congress rule remaining both the Centre and State will certainly spur development of Manipur in general and kangpokpi AC in particular.
Citing non-Congress representatives from Kangpokpi AC for the last many terms as the chief factor for the lack of vitality in the local Congress organisational set-up, he said strengthening the political party has become highly necessary to reap the fruit of various welfare schemes and flagship programmes of the UPA Government.
Noting that flagship programmes launched by the UPA and implemented in the State by the Congress Government would bring about all-round progression and boost economic development, the Chairman said as party system is a part and parcel of democracy emphasis needs to be on strengthening the party organisation.
Addressing the gathering at a one-day Block Level Committee meeting organised by Kangpokpi Block Congress Committee at Kangpokpi community hall today, Haokholal said both the Congress Government and the party deserve appreciation for its commitment to the uplift economic condition of the masses through launch of various welfare projects.
Speaking at the occasion, Sadar Hills District Congress Committee president Thangkham Misao prevailed upon party workers to continuously monitor and report whether or not flagship programmes are being judiciously implemented at the designated areas, including remote corners of the State.
Noting that hill area voters are yet to show maturity in exercising their franchise rights, Thangkham said taking into account various welfare schemes undertaken by the Congress party the people should work for maintaining a stable Government in both the Centre and State.
Reminding that without stability in governance it would be naive to hope for development, he suggested that people's mandate would be technically invalid if votes are cast based solely on individual charisma.
Taking part at the meeting, MPCC secretaries S Jiten and P Sashikanta deliberated on the UPA Government's National Food Security Ordinance along with highlighting that on successful implementation of the Ordinance the problem of food insecurity would be history.
They also urged Block Congress office bearers to reach out to the common people as Ordinance aims to benefit women and children.
