Armed men attack Moidangpok, 3 hurt

Imphal, May 22 2023:
At least three Meetei (Meitei) villagers were injured when suspected armed Kuki militants attacked the adjoining area of Moidangpok and Keithelmanbi under Patsoi police station, Imphal West last night.
All the injured persons are presently undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital Surgery Ward.
All of them are said to be stable.
At around 9 pm yesterday, a few villagers saw some suspected armed Kuki militants coming down toward the paddy fields of Moidangpok.
Immediately, the villagers alerted the local people.
Soon the local people of Moidangpok and adjoining areas gathered and tried to chase away the armed Kukis.
But the suspected armed Kuki militants opened fire injuring three persons before they fled toward the nearby hills at around 10.30 pm.
The injured victims have been identified as Deepak Thangjam (35) s/o Mangi of Moidangpok Awang Leikai, Khangembam Kishan (30) s/o Nabachandra of Moidangpok Maning Leikai and Yengkhom Naoton (23) s/o Birachandra of Moidangpok Maning Leikai.
They were evacuated to RIMS Hospital for treatment.
Deepak sustained multiple injuries on thigh, chest and face, Kishan got bullet injuries on left leg while Naoton got bullet injuries on left finger.
All the three victims had undergone minor operations and their conditions are said to be stable.
Soon after the incident, Imphal West Commandos rushed to the spot and carried out search operations together with troops of 33 AR, BSF and CRPF to nab the suspected armed Kuki militants.
In the course of the search operation, one Chungkhomang Kipgen (41) s/o late Paolam Kipgen of Sinam Khaithong village was apprehended at around 5 am today.
One 12 bore shotgun, seven cartridges and mobile phone were seized from his possession.
The combined security team also destroyed some temporary bunkers at Sinam Khaithong Kuki village.
To prevent any kind of unwanted incident, large number of Imphal West district commandos and police personnel have been deployed in the area.
Another team of Manipur Police led by top officers went to the incident site and looked after the situation today afternoon, sources said.
