Kpi bids adieu to former Finance Minister

A renowned and one of the finest politicians, Chungkhokai Doungel, former Manipur's Finance Minister passed away at Apollo Hospital, Guwahati on May 21 afternoon.
He was 82 and is survived by his wife, two sons who are IPS officers, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
The late former Finance Minister is the father of the present Manipur DGP, P Doungel and ADGP Christopher Doungel.
He was reportedly traumatized at the peak of violence in Imphal.
An Arts graduate from St Xavier's College, Calcutta, now, Kolkata in 1960, the deceased is the son of (L) Thangpao Doungel, a resident of C Aisan village, one of the most significant Kuki villages, situated in Saikul sub-division of Kangpokpi district.
He was not only a renowned Kuki politician but also a prominent leader.
He served as Minister in different coalition Governments in the State.

He was fielded by the NCP as its candidate for the Outer Manipur seat in the 2014 General elections.
His candidature was supported by seven parties from the Left and Secular Alliance.
His mortal remains were transported on land by Young Paite Association ambulance from Guwahati via the National Highway-2 on Sunday evening.
In almost all the Kuki villages along the NH-2 from Assam to Manipur, a warm short reception ceremony of the mortal remains of the former Minister was held by the Kukis to pay their last tribute.
At Kangpokpi town, hundreds of Kukis waited the whole night till dawn for the mortal remains at Kuki Baptist Convention (KBC) Centre Church at Kangpokpi.
The mortal remains of the former Minister arrived at the town at around 4.50 am where all the Kuki civil society organizations including Kuki Inpi, Kuki Students' Organization, Thadou Students' Organization, Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Christian Church, Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi, Assam Rifles, etc held a brief condolence ceremony to pay their last tribute.
Leaders of various civil society organizations of Kangpokpi district, various Church leaders spoke at the condolence ceremony while paying their last tribute by wrapping a traditional shawl over the mortal remains.
The 22 Assam Rifles Kangpokpi Post Commander, Maj Rahul on behalf of the Assam Rifles fraternity wrapped a traditional shawl and a garland to pay tribute to the departed soul.
Later, the mortal remains was taken to his native village at C Aisan in Saikul, where he was buried with befitting honour.
