Imphal, May 22 2023:
As Chief Minister N Biren himself has admitted that there were security lapses and intelligence failure and the Government was ready to bear responsibility for the ethnic violence raging through the State, N Biren must voluntarily step down from the post of Chief Minister, asserted JD (U) .
Speaking to media persons today, JD (U) president Ksh Biren said that they have already submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding a thorough enquiry into the ethnic violence by an enquiry commission.
As the Chief Minister has admitted security lapses and intelligence failure, many questions of the public regarding the causes and circumstances of the eruption of the ethnic violence have been answered to some extent, Ksh Biren said.
Security as well as intelligence are under the Home Minister and Chief Minister N Biren is also the Home Minister.
As N Biren himself has stated that his Government would bear responsibility for the ethnic violence, he does not have any moral right to serve as the Chief Minister of Manipur.
The State Government has failed to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.
Law and order have broken down completely, he said.
The foothills of Manipur are now reverberating with the cries and wail of innocent victims.
With the security forces unable to protect civilians, the citizens are demanding arms to defend themselves, he noted.
There are abject flaws in the pattern of security deployment, Ksh Biren remarked.
He also appealed to the 10 Kuki MLAs to review and withdraw their decision in the interest of the integrity of Manipur.
JD(U) Manipur State unit senior vice-president O Nabakishore appealed to the BJP Central leaders to pay due attention toward containing the ethnic violence raging in the State.
It is a matter of grave concern that the Central leaders have been treating the people of Manipur as stepsons and stepdaughters.
He also demanded a relief and rehabilitation package in order to rehabilitate the displaced people.
