Veteran politician C Doungel passes away

Former finance minister and one of the finest politicians among the Kuki tribe, Chungkhokai Doungel passed away at Apollo Hospital, Gu-wahati on Sunday afternoon.
He was 82, and is survived by his wife, two sons, who are holding top posts in the police department, daughter-in-laws, and grandchildren.
The former minister was father of DGP P Doungel and ADGP Christopher Doungel.
An Arts graduate from St Xavier College, Kolkata in 1960, C Doungel, who was a resident of C Aisan village under Saikul sub division in Kangpokpi dis-trict, was not only a respected politician but also a prominent Kuki leader.
He had served as minister in different coalition governments of the state.
His mortal remains were brought in Paite Association's ambulance from Guwahati via NH-2 on Sunday evening during which, Kuki villages along the highway paid their last respects to the leader.
Kuki CSOs such as Kuki Inpi, Kuki Students' Or-ganisation, Thadou Students' Organisation, Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Christian Church, Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi as well as Assam Rifles held a brief condolence ceremony at Kangpokpi town around 4.50 am to pay their tribute.
Later, the body was taken to his native village at C Aisan for the burial.
