With the stated objec-tive to help bring peace and normalcy in state, Imphal-based Naga and Meitei Pangal communities have come for-ward to form a body chris-tened "Forum for Restoration of Peace" with Ashang Kasar as its convenor.
Speaking to the media on Monday at Manipur Press Club, Ashang Kasar regretted that the communal conflict since May 3 between Meitei and Kuki communities have affected all other commu-nities residing in Manipur.
Considering the gravity of the situation and the need for peace in state, Imphal-based Naga and Meitei-Pangal communities had to come forward, Ashang Kasar said, adding that an emergency meeting was conveyed at the Hatta Mana Ingkhol office of UCDAASIM on Monday afternoon during which the Forum with 61 members was formed.
Informing that the Fo-rum will work to resolve any issues, be it political or socio-economic through ne-gotiations and peaceful dia-logues, the convenor opined that it is not the right time for the indigenous people to keep on fighting.
While ap-pealing the public to extend cooperation to the Forum's endeavour, Ashang Kasar also assured that it will meet CSOs and MLAs of the hills to solicit their views on the situation.
He also appealed to the state government to take effective measures to bring normalcy in Manipur at the earliest.
