Imphal, May 22 2023:
Alleging inefficiency by state and central gov-ernments in containing the restive situation in the state, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has cautioned of launching intense movement if the government remains indif-ferent to the urgent need for protecting lives and prop-erties of the public.
Speaking to newspersons at Uripok on Monday, CO-COMI coordinator Jitendra Ningomba informed that the Committee has been close-ly monitoring the evolving situation since outbreak of the communal riots on May 3 and working to end the conflict so as to bring peace and normalcy in the state.
Similarly, in order to re-store peace the central gov-ernment despatched large number of paramilitary forces to the state.
However, the activities of paramili-tary forces and Assam Rifles are both unsatisfactory and suspicious, he contended, and referred to numerous incidents of firing and in-timidating by Kuki militants under So0 in areas where security forces are deployed.
Instead of arresting those attacking the people with sophisticated weapons, the security forces are turning their ire on the unarmed civilians, he maintained and demanded the government to declare the Kuki militants as terrorists and withdraw the So0 pact.
Further stating that CO-COMI does not have trust in the security forces to main-tain law and order situation, he reiterated that COCOMI would be compelled to launch protests by joining hands with the people if se-curity forces and the gov-ernment fail to deal law and order situation sincerely.
