Imphal, May 22 2023:
Since chief minister N Bi-ren has admitted that there were security lapses and intelligence failure with regard to the commu-nal violence he has no moral right to remain as the chief minister of Manipur, said Janata Dal United (JD-U) Manipur.
Addressing media persons in this regard at his Babupara resi-dence, JD-U Manipur president Kshetrimayum Biren Singh stat-ed that the chief minister while taking part at the anti-terrorism day function, had admitted that the communal violence broke out in the state due to security and intelligence failure and the state government had also submitted a memorandum to the Governor to initiate an enquiry by constituting an enquiry commission.
The statement made by the chief minister was a bold one and it is appreciated.
However, as the se-curity and intelligence is under the purview of the home department, the chief minister is accountable for the miseries brought to the people as he is in charge of the home portfolio.
Therefore, N Biren has no moral right to continue as the chief minister, he maintained.
The president further stated that people have expressed re-sentment against security per-sonnel deployed in the foothills and as such there is need to review the deployment as wished by the public.
He further urged the state government to seriously look into the issue of the 10 MLAs demand-ing separate administration for the Kukis which has created unrest among the public.
According to JD -U state vice president Oinam Nabakishwar, it is regretful that the PM and the Home Minister are silent over the ethnic violence in the state.
Since the issue is a serious one and the state alone cannot solve the problem, the union government too needs to intervene and do the needful of bringing back peace and normalcy in the state.
He also pointed out the need for the state government to demand a special package for the displaced people taking shelter in different relief camps and also taking shel-ter outside the state.
