Imphal, December 14 2022:
At a crucial time when the Nagas are praying for a logical conclusion of the peace talk, the emerging land dispute between the Mao Council and the Southern Angami Public Organization is unfortunate, said the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) .
In a statement issued to the press today, ANSAM said the Mao Council and the Southern Angami Public Organization should solve the dispute in a peaceful manner taking into consideration the crucial situation the Nagas are facing.
"While the Nagas are praying for logical conclusion of the Indo-Naga Peace Talk with due recognition of "Naga Flag and Constitution" and integration as "inalienable rights" of the Naga people at this crucial time, ANSAM is disconsolate to come across a dispute over traditional land ownership between the Mao Council and the Southern Angami Public Organization," it said.
Advising both parties to exercise restraint until a peaceful solution is reached, ANSAM appealed to the Southern Angami Public Organization to reconsider and revoke its resolution to ban Mao citizens from entering the Southern Angami Area with effect from December 15 .
Considering the impending socio-political upheavals of the Nagas and the common goal to bring cohesion, socio-cultural harmony and peaceful co-existence within the Nagas as a family under the roof of one umbrella, ANSAM said the dispute is like a family issue and it may be settled in a peaceful manner traditionally.
"As followers of Jesus Christ, the Prince of peace, let us all be reminded of our duty as Christians during this Christmas season to be the agents of peace and goodwill to all men," said ANSAM.
