Imphal, December 14 2022:
Subsequent to issuance of a new notification by the government and assurance from women vendors of all the three Ima Markets that they would meet the authority concerned and ensure justice to the street vendors, the agitation of the street vendors has been suspended with immediate effect, said Khwairamband Keithel Street Vendors' Welfare Union (KHKSVWU) president Beda.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, Beda informed that the agitation was in denunciation of the notifications issued by MA-HUD and IMC wherein only a handful of women vendors were allotted vending slots at the temporary market.
The union made it clear that the arrangement could not be accepted and that intense form of agitations including relay hunger strike would continue from December 13, if the government does not take up necessary measures for the welfare of the street vendors.
The president further informed that since women vendors of all the three Ima markets appealed to them to stop the ongoing agitation and that they would meet the authority concerned on behalf of the street vendors to deliver justice to the street vendors, the agitation has been suspended.
Moreover, the state government has issued another order in this regard, Beda added.
