Students briefed on IT, youth on plastic menace

A day-long sensitisation programme for school and college students on "Cyber Security and Emerging Technologies" was held under the joint initiative of District Skill Committee, Jiribam and National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Imphal at Jiri College auditorium in Jiribam district on Wednesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Jiribam deputy commissioner W Malemnganba Chenglei highlighted that with advancement in science and technology as well as widespread use of the internet, we all need to understand the basic concept of all these technologies from the security point of view.
With advancement in the information technology happening at a rapid pace, more awareness programmes need to be conducted for the benefit of student community in order to ensure purposeful usage of the same, he stressed.
Presided over by Jiribam College principal Dr Th Randhoni Devi, the event was also attended by NIELIT Imphal chief R Bigensana as guest of honour.
On the other-hand, with the stated objective to contain pollution caused by the single use plastic bags and raise awareness among local youth and villagers, Loktak Battalion of IGAR (South) organised awareness campaign on "Ban on Single Use Plastic" at Kumbi in Bishnupur district on Wednesday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the basic aim of the campaign was to raise awareness about promoting environmental conservation by encouraging all people to stay away from the use of plastic bags and look for more eco-friendly alternatives.
The awareness campaign was attended by youth and villagers of Setupur, Kumbi and nearby villages and was constructive as the participants grasped important information.
During the awareness campaign a plogging drive also organised while picking up plastic and litters were cleaned off at Kumbi Municipality and nearby areas.
A total of 35 local youths and villagers attended the event.
All ranks and local youth and villagers undertook a pledge after the drive to keep the environment clean and green.
