Imphal, December 14 2022:
While demanding investigation into Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scam by an independent central agency, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has said that any minister found involved in the scam during the course of the investigation should be dropped from the council of ministers.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, MPCC senior spokesperson N Bhupenda said that RD & PR minister Y Khemchand had placed his side of the story about PMGSY scam but could not disclose the exact amount misappropriated.
To bring truth about the scam, MPCC leaders had thoroughly discussed the matter and placed some demands to the government in the interest of the people as all the missing PMGSY funds were for the people and not a single rupee from the fund can be misused or siphoned off.
Accordingly, MPCC demands investigation by a neutral body, preferably a central agency, to find out where and who misappropriated the fund, Bhupenda said, adding that investigation by an independent body is necessary to identify people involved in the scam, be it the minister, government officials, contractors or any other individual.
If any minister happens to be involved in the scam, then he/she should be dropped from the council of ministers so that truth about the scam could be unearthed, Bhupenda added.
On RD & PR minister Y Khemchand's allegation regarding upload of some documents relating to PMGSY fund on the official Facebook page of the INC, Bhupenda clarified that none of the documents uploaded on INC Manipur Facebook page were related with Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Media had also reported about the written communique made to Manipur Legislative Assembly regarding breach of privilege of the House but the Congress party honours the Constitution and strictly follow the rule of law, he said, adding that the matter lies within the speaker's domain and there is no meaning in commenting on it.
Responding to a query raised by media persons, Bhupenda said that the Congress party will never compromise on any of the scams happening in the state and zero corruption is what the party is striving for both in the country and the state.
To another query, the MPCC senior spokesperson said that both the Prime Minister of the country and the chief minister of the state have been strongly calling for zero corruption and accordingly they should be answerable to PMGSY scam in Manipur.
