Awareness programme on "Cow based organic farming" held

Sangailand Organic Farmer Producer Company Ltd, Bishnupur district today organised a 1-day awareness programme on "Cow based organic farming" at Sunusiphai village.
The programme was conducted with the goal of utilizing cow excretion in organic farming under Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) .
It was attended by Dr Brajamani, Head Scientist, KVK, Utlou; S Sakhen Devi, Agronomy Scientist, KVK, Nambol; L Gokulchandra, cow based organic farmer and retired EE PHED; L Ibopishak Singh, Best District Level Farmer Awardee and L Shyamkumar Singh, Dr Ambedkar National Fellowship Awardee as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, L Gokulchandra stated that since olden days, people utilized cow manure to grow their crops.

"But nowadays, due to loss in soil fertility people have resorted to chemical fertilizers.
This has led to the prevalence of many diseases among people", he claimed.
He pointed out the health benefits of the organic fertilizers made from cow excretions, adding that this is an easy to make, low cost organic fertilizer.
Highlighting the importance of cows, he advised farmers to rear at least one cow per household as it would be impossible to carry out organic farming without these useful animals.
He also emphasized on the need for markets to enable farmers to sell their wares more efficiently and improve their financial condition.
Stressing on the need to amend the market system prevalent in the State, he alleged that certain individuals exercise control over the market system.
L Gokulchandra further urged the State Government to bring about some changes in the market system in the interest of farmers.
Scientists from KVK Utlou and Nambol also spoke at length about organic farming and soil testing.
