Acme fertility and health centre inaugurated

Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata inaugurated Acme Fertility and Health Care Centre, a new hospital located at Hiyang Hiren Leirak, Palace Compound, here, on Wednesday.
Speaker Satyabrata and managing director of the hospital Dr James Elangbam attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while lealth minister Dr Sapam Ran-an, director of education (s) Laishram Nandakumar and SDO Porompat Pooja Elangbam were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Satyabrata expressed happiness over improvement in healthcare sector in the state with government hospitals providing better facilities.
The establishment of Churachandpur Medical College is another sign of improved healthcare system of the state.
It is a matter of pride that an actual medical doctor is leading the health department as the minister and it will help in further development in the sector, he said.
The speaker also appreciated the contribution of private hospitals in advancement of healthcare in the state, and wished grand success to the new hospital in its venture.
Health minister Dr S Ranjan stressed the need for focus on improving primary health care system, without which improvement in other stages of health care systems will be tough.
The government is trying to improve overall health care system in the state.
Chandel district hospital, which had facility for carrying but only 53 types of diagnostic tests, is now able to conduct 134 tests.
Similar facilities will also be available in all the district hospitals across the state, he said.
The minister also spoke on different schemes in the healthcare sector which include TB Mukt Bharat, PMJAY, Ayushman Bharat Abhiyan, Chief Ministergee Hakshelgee Tengbang (CMHT), and Chief Minister's Health for All (CMHA), under which diagnostic tests of non-communicable diseases are being carried out free of cost at the doorsteps of the people.
The minister further assured to ill discuss the proposal for launching menstrual hygiene programme and blindness control programme under CMHA.
Besides, the government is working on taking up initiatives on mental health issues and to provide affordable and accessible healthcare services to the public.
Private hospitals are also playing major role in addressing the healthcare needs of the public and many of them have been incorporated under CMHT and PMJAY schemes, he noted.
Speaking about the fertility rate in the state, the minister said that some communities are experiencing low fertility rate of below 1.7 .
The situation is serious for these communities as they are likely to face extinction after some decades if the trend continues.
It is time to discuss the underlying cause and focus on improving the fertility rate.
Gynaecologists and reproductive medicine specialists should focus on this issue, he stressed.
Acme Fertility and Health Care Centre managing director Dr James Elangbam said that fertility rate below 2.1 is considered low.
The total fertility rate of the state is low and modern career-oriented lifestyle of the educated generation is one of the reasons behind the decreasing fertility rate, he said.
Chief guest and other dignitaries also distributed certificates and mementos to the outstanding employees as part of the event.
A booklet on the journey of the hospital was also released on the occasion.
