Imphal, December 14 2022:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has appealed to the State Government to let an independent board of a Central agency probe the alleged discrepancies in execution of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) projects in Manipur and find out where or how the Central funds meant for road projects were utilised or swindled.
Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan today, MPCC vice president and senior spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda said that the Congress party revealed the mishandling in execution of the Central (PMGSY) projects after due consultation with the senior leaders and understanding the fact of the matter.
Saying that the crores of rupees which have been withdrawn without executing any works or completing the projects belong only to the people of Manipur, he added that no person be it Government officials or any individuals can misuse public money.
Further urging the Government to take the assistance of a Central agency so as to recover the public money which has been withdrawn inappropriately, Bupenda said that all individuals involved whether are Minister, Government employees, contractors or any middle should be identified and penalised.
"Ministers, if any, found to have a hand in the scam must be removed from the Council of Ministers immediately," the Congress spokesperson demanded.
Clarifying on the matter of breach of privilege and contempt of the House raised by RD & PR Minister Y Khemchand, N Bupenda reasoned that the documents uploaded by MPCC on its Facebook page didn't have any connection with Manipur Legislative Assembly and neither was it a record of the House.
He also said that the Congress has full faith in the Constitution of India and follows the rules of law.
