Abdul Qadir given life sentence for murder

Imphal, December 14 2022:
District and Sessions Judge, Imphal West has awarded life sentence under IPC Section 302 to Md Abdul Qadir alias Amuthi alias Amu (35), son of Md Ibosana of Hiyangthang Pallak after he was found guilty of murdering one Sarakhatun Bibi of the same locality.
As per the case dossiers, Sarakhatun's body was found on September 11, 2014 .
The court of justice A Guneshwar declared Abdul Qadir guilty of murder on December 6 and reserved the sentence hearing for Wednesday.
During the sentence hearing, the public prosecutor appealed for death penalty or life sentence along with fine for the convict.
On the other hand, the counsel of the convict prayed for releasing the convict on probation for rehabilitating to normal life since he is only 35 years old.
He also prayed for compensation to the victim's family.
After studying the evidences, submissions of the public prosecutor and counsel of the convict, the court awarded the convict life sentence with a fine of Rs 10,000 .
In case of failure to pay the fine, the convict will stay another six months in jail, the judgment said.
The court also directed the government to pay compensation to the victim's family under the Manipur Victim Compensation Scheme.
The court further directed to provide copies of the order along with details of the victim's next of kin to the secretary of District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West.
