AIR, Imphal celebrates diamond jubilee

The Additional Director General of Prasar Bharati, Sunil Srivastava has assured to upgrade All India Radio (AIR), Imphal to the National level.
The ADG was speaking at the curtain raiser of the diamond jubilee celebration of AIR, Imphal marking 60 years since its establishment in 1963 .
The function was held at the auditorium of AIR, Imphal located at Palace Compound today.
Speaking as the chief guest, Sunil Srivastava highlighted the contribution of AIR and Doordarshan and their growing importance in the country by pointing out that the Central Government had recently approved a Rs 2500 crore scheme for Doordarshan and AIR to upgrade their broadcast infrastructure and network.
Lauding the talent demonstrated by the staff and artistes of AIR Imphal, he encouraged them to showcase their talent at the international level and bag prestigious awards.
Further, the ADG stated that he would share his experiences at AIR Imphal with the CEO of Prasar Bharati and other high-ranking officials and ensure that they visit AIR, Imphal to explore ways for further development of the station.
Sunil Srivastava also praised the News Unit of AIR, Imphal and the role of radio news in disseminating information throughout the State.
The ADG then opined that it should be a matter of pride for the station that their song "Sanaleibak Manipur" has been recognized as the State song.
Addressing the gathering Gin Gangte, Head, News Unit, AIR Imphal stated that since the establishment of the station 60 years ago in 1963, AIR Imphal has played a big role in promoting the tradition, customs, culture, language etc of Manipur.
AIR Imphal has always spread the message of brotherhood and togetherness between the different ethnic communities residing in the State, he said.
Today's curtain raiser was also attended by Nongmaithem Nandakumar, Director AIR Imphal (Engineering); Adhikarimayum Geetchandra, Programme Head, AIR Imphal and Kumud Srivastava, wife of ADG Sunil Srivastava as the presidium members.
The staff of AIR Imphal also presented many entertaining programmes during the function including song and dance performances.
A PowerPoint presentation on the various achievements of the station since its inception in 1963 was also shown to the gathering.
