Imphal, April 06 2023:
A daylong training cum interaction programme for farmers on 'Natural farming' was organised by State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) under the aegis of Directorate of Agriculture at SAMETI's training hall, Porompat on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture commissioner RK Dinesh informed that time has come to revive the natural farming method adopted by our forefathers, the products of which were free of any toxic materials.
He continued that despite being a small state, the soil nutrient and compatibility in Manipur is different from one field to another.
Thus, concerted efforts are needed to identify the crops suitable for different fields and assist in increasing the income of the farmers, he stated.
In his speech, Agriculture director N Gojendro pointed out that with rise in population arable land has been shrinking, not to mention of the difficulties faced by the farmers in increasing the yield so as to meet the demands of the ever increasing population.
Thus, there is the need to change the existing agricultural practices, he said, while suggesting the implementation of natural farming methods including usage of organic manure.
