Brown sugar worth Rs 5.96 Cr seized at Myanmar border

Troops of 5th Assam Rifles have seized 2.982 Kgs of brown sugar (including weight of packaging materials) worth Rs 5.96 crore in the international market.
The AR troops were patrolling on foot along the Indo-Myanmar international border near border pillar number 79 at around 4.30 am today when they saw a man carrying a sack.
When the troops asked the man to stop, the man dropped the sack and fled into Myanmar.
On opening the abandoned sack, the troops found 2.982 Kgs of brown sugar packed in 70 soap cases.
The seized item was later handed over to Moreh police station.
On the other hand, a team of NAB PS assisted by Imphal police arrested two persons and seized 3.033 kilograms of suspected brown sugar yesterday.

They were travelling in one Bolero and one Maruti Alto car and were arrested from Dewlahland Third Avenue Road near Grace Lodge.
The two have been identified as Paoginthang Touthang (42), s/o Solet Touthang of Touthang Veng, Saikul, Kangpokpi district and Khaijamang Touthang (33), s/o Ngamjapao Touthang of Yangoubung Village, Moreh, Tengnoupal district, presently staying at Churachandpur, Tuibong.
From their possession, the NAB team seized a carry bag containing six transparent polythene packets suspected to be brown sugar.
The suspected brown sugar along with the polythene packets weigh 3.033 Kg, said police.
The team also seized two mobile phones with SIM cards and other documents.
A case has been registered at NAB PS for further investigation, added the police.
